Sun, Oct 1 Sutra Service, Zazen, and Dharma Talk at MacVeagh House, Tea and Council on Teacher Succession
All are welcome on the first Sunday of each month, from 9 am to noon, to join SBZC for our weekly practice followed this Sunday by tea (thank you for bringing a snack to share) and a sangha council at which we will discuss what we have learned from responses to the survey we sent to sangha members in September. This council will also give attendees an opportunity to share their thoughts on new leadership as Sensei Koan gradually adjusts his involvement with our sangha. Sat, Oct 14 Sangha Building Class: Intrapersonal Dynamics
The study of intrapersonal dynamics helps us become aware of what happens within that leads us to experience anger, pain, and other strong emotions without attributing their cause to other people and external conditions. Sensei Koan will teach this class which includes a section on forgiveness. The fee is $28 plus a materials charge t.b.a. Dana for the teacher is appreciated. Please bring your lunch. Contributions to the tea table are welcome. This event will occur from 9 am to 4 pm on the UCSB campus at Centennial House, Building 530 in Section G11 of the campus map. There is a parking fee for cars without a campus permit.

All are welcome to join our weekly practice from 9 to 11 am, after which Sensei Koan will offer a class exclusively for those preparing to receive the Bodhisattva Precepts at the Jukai Ceremony on October 29; the fee for this class is $28 plus a materials charge to be announced. This retreat, alternating 30-minute periods of sitting meditation with walking meditation and tea breaks, will begin at 9 am and end at 4 pm. Bring your own lunch. Contributions of snacks for the tea table are appreciated. The suggested retreat fee is $25. Dana for the teacher is greatly appreciated. Sun, Oct 29 Sutra Service, Zazen, Jukai Ceremony, and Potluck Lunch at the Grange Hall in Los Olivos
Jukai is the lay ordination ceremony at which one or more Santa Ynez Valley Zen Sangha members, after months of preparation, will receive the Bodhisattva Precepts. The Jukai Ceremony will follow our usual Sunday schedule. Please join us for this very personal and powerful service and celebratory potluck. Thank you for bringing food to share. SBZC members will carpool to the valley. Please arrive at the SB Museum of Natural History parking lot in time for an 8 am departure for Los Olivos.

For those not travelling to Los Olivos for the Jukai Ceremony, MacVeagh House will be open for “just sitting”.
